Why Is My Business Not Showing Up on Google? 9 Fixable Reasons

Why is my business not showing on Google is usually less mysterious than it feels. In most Kent cases, something specific is broken, incomplete or inconsistent: a profile issue, an indexing problem, or a trust signal gap.

Work through these nine reasons in order. For a guided diagnosis, use the free Growth Plan or Local SEO.

1. Your Google Business Profile is unverified or suspended

If the profile is not verified, Google may limit visibility. If it is suspended, the listing can vanish from Search and Maps entirely.

Fix: Complete verification. If suspended, follow a proper appeal path (see Google Business Profile suspended).

2. Your website pages are not indexed

No index means no organic ranking. Check Google Search Console for the key URLs.

Common causes:

  • Accidental noindex
  • Robots.txt blocking
  • New site with no sitemap
  • Soft 404s or thin pages Google ignores

Fix: Submit a sitemap, request indexing for money pages, remove blockers.

3. NAP inconsistency

Different phone numbers or addresses across the web make Google unsure which entity is correct.

Fix: Align name, address and phone everywhere that matters. Clean duplicates via citation work.

4. Wrong or weak categories on GBP

A primary category that does not match what people search for can bury you behind better-matched competitors.

Fix: Choose the most accurate primary category. Add secondary categories carefully, not by stuffing.

5. Thin or unclear service pages

If your site is one homepage and a vague “services” block, Google struggles to match you to specific queries like “emergency plumber Sittingbourne”.

Fix: Create clear service pages with local relevance and strong calls to action.

6. Almost no reviews (or old reviews only)

Reviews are a major local trust and ranking signal. A five-star average with three reviews from 2019 often loses to a fresher profile.

Fix: Ask happily served customers for genuine reviews. Respond to them. Avoid tactics that break Google’s rules.

7. Your service area settings are wrong

Mobile businesses sometimes hide the address incorrectly, or set a service area that does not match where they actually work.

Fix: Match GBP settings to reality. If you serve multiple towns, support that with website structure too.

8. Technical issues on mobile

Slow load times, broken click-to-call buttons or intrusive pop-ups kill engagement. Google notices poor mobile experiences.

Fix: Test on a real phone. Improve speed and make contact dead simple. Related: website speed and local rankings.

9. You are visible, just not where you are looking

Sometimes the business is showing for branded searches or obscure terms, but not for the competitive head terms you care about.

Fix: Search in an incognito window, from the right location bias if possible, and check Search Console queries. Compare branded vs non-branded performance.

Fast diagnostic order

  1. Can you find your GBP when searching your exact business name?
  2. Is the profile verified and not suspended?
  3. Are your top pages indexed?
  4. Do NAP details match across the main directories?
  5. Do you have recent genuine reviews?
  6. Are service pages specific enough?
  7. Is the mobile experience usable?

When to get help

If you have checked the basics and still cannot generate local visibility after consistent effort, you likely need strategy, not another random plugin. SEO services and contact are the next step.
