SEO for Engineering Companies

Get found by the buyers searching for your capability, your parts and your service, not just your company name.

I am Ben Nuttall. I do SEO for engineering companies across the UK, working directly with the owner, never through an account manager. Month to month, no lock in. I came into SEO from engineering myself, so I understand how an engineering business actually wins work and where its enquiries really come from.

The problem

Most engineering companies rely on brand recognition and long standing customers. If you already know the firm, you find them. If you do not, you never will.

That is a fragile position. It means the whole business rests on the customers you already have, while every buyer who does not know your name is searching and finding a competitor. Engineering buyers search for very specific things: a particular part, a specific repair, a service for a named piece of equipment, a capability like CNC machining or hydraulic repair. They know exactly what they need and they search for it precisely.

If your site only talks about your company in general terms, it never appears for those searches. The buyer with a live requirement and a budget goes to whoever built a page that matches what they typed.

What SEO for engineering companies covers

This is about being found for what you actually do and what you actually sell, not just for your name.

Capability and service pages

Every capability you offer is a search someone makes. Machining, fabrication, welding, hydraulic and pneumatic repair, servicing and maintenance, breakdown support, bespoke manufacture, testing and inspection. Each deserves its own page, targeted to the exact terms buyers use, so your firm appears when someone searches for that specific capability.

Parts and product visibility

This is the biggest missed opportunity in engineering. Buyers search for specific parts by manufacturer and by part type, they know precisely what they need, and almost nobody builds pages to meet them. Structured parts pages capture high intent buyers who are ready to order, not just enquire. This is exactly the gap that transformed one of my engineering clients.

Local and sector visibility

Buyers often search for an engineering company near them or for a firm serving their industry. I target the regions and sectors you serve through your Google Business Profile, citations and location aware pages, so you show up for the buyers who need a firm within reach.

Getting found in AI search

Buyers are starting to ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude to recommend an engineering firm, a parts supplier, or a specialist for a particular repair, instead of only searching Google.

These tools recommend on evidence and fit. An engineering company with clear capability pages, structured parts information, defined sectors and consistent details gives an AI something concrete to put forward. A site that just says precision engineering solutions gives it nothing. I build every page so both search engines and AI tools can extract what you make, what you repair, what you stock and who you serve, without guessing. It is included as standard.

Proof: Hydraulic Crane Services

Hydraulic Crane Services is a plant and lifting engineering business, and my longest running client. When we started, the site was five pages and relied almost entirely on brand recognition.

The turning point was competitor analysis that found a gap in the market for parts. I redesigned and expanded the site to cover all five of their core services, then built out a parts section covering nine crane manufacturers, including Hiab, Palfinger and Fassi. Each manufacturer got its own section so a buyer searching for a specific part landed on a page that matched exactly what they needed.

Those parts and manufacturer pages became the main driver behind roughly 20 percent year on year growth in gross sales, sustained across close to five years. The relationship is still running, because the pages keep producing orders.

I had the pleasure of working with Ben on a project. I handled website design and development, and he took care of SEO. Honestly, I and the whole team were just so impressed with him.

From the moment we started working together, we launched a social media campaign while Ben got to work optimizing the website and our Google Business profile. Within just a few weeks we were already seeing real results, more site visitors, more leads. Ben suggested some smart changes to the site structure and copy to help Google recognize the business better and rank it higher.

What really stood out to me was how great his communication was, which makes such a difference in remote work. Ben kept the team in the loop with regular updates and was always patient explaining his thinking behind each decision.

Working with Ben was a pleasure, and I really hope we get to team up on another project soon.

How it works

1

One. We talk. Thirty minutes, no pitch. I look at where you rank now, what capability and parts searches you are missing, and whether there is a realistic opportunity. If there is not, I will say so.

2

Two. I audit. A plain written breakdown of what is holding your site back and what the opportunity is worth.

3

Three. We start. Technical fixes first, then your capability and parts pages, then proof and authority. You deal with me throughout.

4

Four. You see the numbers. Monthly reporting on rankings, traffic and enquiries.

Month to month. No twelve month lock in. If it is not working, you leave. Prefer a fixed one-month push first? Look at the SEO Kickstart.

Why work with me

I came into SEO from engineering, so I understand capabilities, tolerances, lead times, parts and how an engineering firm actually operates. That background is why I spotted the parts gap that drove five years of growth for a lifting equipment client. When you call, you get me, not an account manager and not whoever is free that week. I work with a small number of clients so each gets proper attention, and I do not tie anyone in, because a proven track record and month to month terms are a better argument than a contract.

Ben Nuttall is an SEO consultant based in Faversham, Kent, who came into SEO from engineering. I provide SEO for engineering companies across the UK, working directly with every client with no account managers. East Kent SEO builds capability and parts pages for engineering firms and grew Hydraulic Crane Services, a plant and lifting engineering business, by around 20 percent year on year for close to five years.

FAQ

Does SEO actually work for engineering companies?

Yes, and the biggest wins usually come from parts and capability pages rather than broad terms. Buyers search for exactly what they need, a specific part, a named repair, a particular capability. Build the pages that match those searches and you capture high intent buyers who are ready to order. That, plus being recommended by AI tools, is the opportunity.

Do you only work with engineering companies in Kent?

No. I am based in Faversham in Kent and I work with engineering firms across the UK. The local and sector targeting is built around your customers, not my location.

What does it cost?

Packages and retainers start at five hundred pounds a month. What you need depends on how many capabilities, parts lines and sectors you want to cover. I will tell you after the audit, not before.

How long does SEO for engineering companies take?

You will usually see movement in rankings within two to three months, with meaningful enquiry and order growth between four and six. Parts and capability pages can move faster when competition is thin. Anyone promising first page in thirty days is either lying or targeting terms nobody searches.

Do I need a new website?

Usually not. Most engineering websites can be fixed rather than rebuilt. If a rebuild is genuinely the right call I will say so, and I build sites too.

What if I already have an SEO agency?

I will audit what is being done and tell you straight whether it is working. If it is, stay put. Plenty of SEO efforts fail for boring reasons, and it is usually obvious within an hour which ones those are.

Is there a long contract?

No. Work is month to month with no twelve month lock in. If it is not working, you leave. I earn the next month by what I did in the last one.

Will this help me get found in AI search as well as Google?

Yes. Clear capability pages, structured parts information, defined sectors and consistent details are what AI tools use when they recommend an engineering firm or parts supplier. That work sits inside the same SEO foundations, not as a separate product.

Find out where you actually rank.

Send me your website and the capabilities and parts you offer. I will come back with an honest read on where you show up, who is beating you, and whether there is enough opportunity to be worth your money.
