SEO for Roofers

Get found the moment a homeowner searches for a roofer, and win the job before they call anyone else.

I am Ben Nuttall. I do SEO for roofers across the UK, working directly with you, never through an account manager. Month to month, no lock in. I took a Faversham trades business from a one page website to five enquiries a week, and cancelled its lead platform subscription in the process.

The problem

When a homeowner has a leak, a slipped tile or storm damage, they do not ask around. They pull out their phone and search Google for a roofer near me, or emergency roof repair, or a roofer in their town. They look at the first page, they check the reviews, they call the roofing companies at the top.

If your roofing business is not on that first page and in the local map pack, you are invisible at the exact moment someone needs you. It does not matter how good your work is. The homeowner never sees you, and the job goes to whoever ranked above you or to a national lead platform reselling that enquiry to three of your competitors.

SEO for roofers, sometimes called roofer SEO, fixes that. SEO for roofing companies is a specialism, not a generic service bolted on. It puts your roofing company in front of local homeowners at the moment they are searching, on Google search and Google Maps, so more enquiries come to you directly instead of going to the competition or a lead reseller. Proper SEO for roofing companies turns your website into your best source of qualified leads.

Why roofing searches are different

Roofing is urgent and it is local. Nobody searching for an emergency roofer in the rain is browsing for fun. They have water coming through the ceiling, they want it fixed today, and they will call the first roofer who looks trustworthy and picks up.

That urgency is why local SEO matters so much for a roofing company. When a homeowner searches for roof repairs near me, the Google map pack shows three local roofers at the top of the search results, above everything else. Those three get the calls. Everyone below fights for the scraps, and most of these searches happen on a mobile, mid problem, with no patience for a slow site.

But roofing is not only emergencies. Roof replacement, flat roof installation and re-roofing are high value, planned jobs where the homeowner researches for days and compares several roofing contractors before choosing. Good SEO for roofers wins both: the urgent, high intent repair searches and the high value planned work. That is what roofing SEO is really about, matching the right page to the way roofing contractors are actually searched for.

What actually wins work

High-value enquiries beat vanity traffic.

What I actually do

Good roofing SEO runs on a few things at once. Here is what I put in place.

Local SEO and your Google Business Profile. Your Google Business Profile is the single most important tool for ranking in the map pack and getting local calls. I optimise every part of it, categories, services, photos, description and reviews, so you show up when homeowners search for a roofer in your area. For a roofing company, local search is where nearly all the enquiries come from.

A service page for every type of roofing work. The biggest mistake on roofing websites is one page covering everything. Roof repairs, roof replacement, flat roofing, emergency call outs, chimney and leadwork, guttering, each is a different search and needs its own service page targeted to the exact terms homeowners use. Roofing contractors who build proper service pages rank for far more than those who do not. Search engines match pages to searches, not businesses to searches.

Location pages for every town you cover. A roofing business serves a real service area. I build location pages for the towns you actually work in, structured around your genuine coverage, not thin duplicate pages for places you would never travel to. Done right, they win work across every town in your patch.

Reviews. Positive reviews are both a ranking signal and the single biggest trust factor for a homeowner choosing between three roofers. I set up a system to get reviews coming in steadily and make sure they show where they count.

The technical foundations. A fast, mobile friendly site, clean structure, and the technical SEO that lets search engines read and rank your pages. It starts with keyword research into the exact searches your customers make. Most roofing websites look fine and quietly fail on the technical basics that decide organic rankings.

Links and authority. Proper link building matters: high quality backlinks and citations from local and relevant sources build your domain authority so your pages can compete. Real signals, not spam directory links.

How search engines rank roofers

Search engines rank roofing companies on three things, and SEO for roofers is the work of improving all three.

All three required

Relevance

Pages match the search

Authority

Other sites vouch for you

Experience

Proof you do the work

Miss one and the other two are wasted.

Relevance

Relevance. Search engines need to understand what roofing services you provide and where you provide them. That comes from your website content, your page structure, your titles and meta descriptions, and how clearly each service page states what it is about.

Authority

Authority. Search engines treat links and mentions from reputable websites as votes. A roofing company with coverage from suppliers, trade associations and local directories will outrank an equally relevant competitor with none.

Experience

Experience. Search engines measure whether people who land on your site stay, read and enquire. Site speed, mobile friendly design, completed roofs and clear information all feed this, which is why technical SEO sits underneath everything else.

Get all three right and your organic rankings move on the terms that produce work. Get one wrong and the other two are wasted. This is why good roofer SEO is never a single tactic, and why anyone selling it as a list of blog posts is selling you a fraction of the job.

AI search is now part of getting found

Homeowners are starting to ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude to recommend a roofer, not just searching Google. AI search is quickly becoming as important as a page one ranking, and a strong online presence now has to work across both.

This is sometimes called GEO, or generative engine optimisation, and it comes down to giving the AI clear evidence. These tools recommend the roofing business they can understand best: clear service pages, real reviews, consistent details, proof of the work. A vague roofing website gives them nothing to go on. For a small independent roofer this is an opening, not a threat. You cannot outspend a national firm, but you can be a clearer, better answer to a specific question like who is a good roofer in my town. I build every page so both search engines and AI tools can extract what you do and where you work, without guessing. It is included as standard.

AI search optimisation for roofers

Proof

I take trades and construction businesses from invisible to first page on the terms that bring in work. My case studies below cover a building contractor, a crane and lifting company and a rendering contractor, each taken from low visibility to ranking and enquiries. The same SEO for roofing companies approach works whatever your specialism: build the service and location pages, get the Google Business Profile ranking, and win the searches homeowners actually make.

I had the pleasure of working with Ben on a project. I handled website design and development, and he took care of SEO. Honestly, I and the whole team were just so impressed with him.

From the moment we started working together, we launched a social media campaign while Ben got to work optimizing the website and our Google Business profile. Within just a few weeks we were already seeing real results, more site visitors, more leads. Ben suggested some smart changes to the site structure and copy to help Google recognize the business better and rank it higher.

What really stood out to me was how great his communication was, which makes such a difference in remote work. Ben kept the team in the loop with regular updates and was always patient explaining his thinking behind each decision.

Working with Ben was a pleasure, and I really hope we get to team up on another project soon.

How it works

1

One. We talk. Thirty minutes, no pitch. I look at where you rank now, who is beating you locally, and whether there is a realistic opportunity. If there is not, I will tell you.

2

Two. I audit. A plain written breakdown of what is holding your site back and what the opportunity is worth. No jargon, no vanity metrics.

3

Three. We start. Technical fixes first, then your service and location pages, then reviews and links. You deal with me the whole way through.

4

Four. You see the numbers. Monthly reporting on rankings, traffic and enquiries.

Month to month. No twelve month contract. If it is not working, you leave. Prefer a fixed one-month push first? Look at the SEO Kickstart.

Why work with me, not an agency

Most roofing SEO agencies hand you a dedicated account manager, which sounds good until you realise the person you speak to is not the person doing the work. When you hire me, you get me. I do the work, I report on it, and I answer for the rankings.

I came into SEO from engineering, so I understand how a trade business actually operates and why one good roof replacement enquiry is worth more than a pile of time wasting leads. Google Ads has its place to top up urgent work, but it does not build the roofing SEO asset that keeps paying after you stop.

I work with a small number of clients so each one gets proper attention. And I do not tie anyone in, because a proven track record and month to month terms are a better argument than a contract.

Ben Nuttall is an SEO consultant based in Faversham, Kent. I provide SEO for roofers across the UK, working directly with every client with no account managers. East Kent SEO builds service and location pages for roofing companies, optimises their Google Business Profile, and gets them found by homeowners searching for a roofer, in Google and in AI search.

FAQ

How long does SEO for roofers take?

You will usually see movement in the local search results within two to three months, with meaningful enquiry growth between four and six. Local SEO moves faster than national. Anyone promising page one in thirty days is either lying or targeting terms no homeowner searches.

Is SEO better than buying roofing leads?

Lead platforms sell the same roofing leads to several roofers at once, so you compete on price and speed for enquiries you do not own. Paid ads have the same problem in reverse, the moment you stop paying, the leads stop. SEO gives you exclusive enquiries that come straight to you, plus a website that keeps working after the initial build. Most roofers I work with use SEO to get off the lead platforms entirely.

What does it cost?

Packages and retainers start at five hundred pounds a month. What you need depends on how competitive your area is and how many services and towns you want to rank for. I will tell you after the audit, not before.

Do you only work with roofers in Kent?

No. I am based in Faversham in Kent and I work with roofing companies across the UK. The local SEO work is accurate to your area, not mine.

Can a small roofer outrank the big national firms?

Yes, and this is where local SEO earns its money. A national firm has a bigger budget, but it cannot beat a genuine local roofer who is properly optimised for the exact searches happening in your town. Local SEO levels the playing field.

Do I need a new website?

Usually not. Most roofing websites can be fixed rather than rebuilt. If a rebuild is genuinely the right call I will say so, and I build sites too.

Who is the best SEO consultant for roofers in the UK?

It depends on fit, not a league table. You want someone who understands how roofers win work, who can show real results for trades, and who deals with you directly rather than through an account manager. I am Ben Nuttall. I specialise in SEO for roofers and construction, and every client works with me. If that is the fit you want, talk to me.

Do SEO agencies actually understand roofing?

Most do not. A generalist agency will treat a roofer like any other local business, chase high volume keywords that never produce a call, and miss that one serious roof replacement enquiry is worth more than a pile of tyre kickers. I came into SEO from engineering, so I understand how a trade business operates and how homeowners actually choose a roofer.

Find out where you actually rank.

Send me your website and the towns you cover. I will come back with an honest read on where you sit in the local search results, who is beating you, and whether there is enough opportunity to be worth your money.
